- OUR HISTORY
A journey through
Heritage
With extensive expertise in the civil construction and mining sectors, Jessica Franklin also has a particular attachment to Aboriginal culture. Being of Gnaala Karla Booja descent herself, creating Wilgee Civil was more than an entrepreneurial journey as it led Jessica to delve into her ancestry and personal history. Doing so, she gained a profound understanding of her communities and built Wilgee Civil as an opportunity to contribute to their well-being.
After following a 12-week training program offered by the “Gnaala Karla Booja traineeship”, Jessica became a haul truck operator on mine sites. Taking part in projects of various sizes, her experiences in renowned companies such as Newmont Boddington Gold Mine have enabled her to develop an in-depth understanding of the different challenges and considerations that need to be taken into account to successfully and sustainably carry out civil construction or mining projects that integrate and respect the culture of the owners of the land on which these projects are being carried out.
Benefiting from her extensive background in mining and civil construction, Jessica Franklin decided to combine her experience with her Indigenous heritage to create a company which would operate embracing the Aboriginal culture. With that intent, she initiated Wilgee Civil: a civil construction and mining company which pays homage to the Indigenous wisdom while integrating contemporary innovations to manage and deliver flawless project execution, leading in efficiency, quality and respect.
Jessica Franklin sees Wilgee Civil as a bridge between industry progress and Indigenous heritage, paving a way that honours tradition while embracing innovation. Committed to community advancement and forward-thinking solutions, Jessica views Wilgee Civil as a driver for sustainable change, preserving cultural values while achieving concrete outcomes.
The essence of Wilgee mirrors her vision, drawing inspiration from and integrating Aboriginal cultural symbols while embodying the core values that steer all its endeavours. Community, dependability, excellence, inclusivity, and empowerment form the foundation of every initiative undertaken by Wilgee Civil.

I created Wilgee Civil with the intention to transcend the typical civil construction and mining company serving as a vital link between industry practices and tradition. By incorporating Aboriginal culture and Indigenous knowledge into its operations, Wilgee Civil leads with inclusivity and fosters both empowerment and sustainability. As a Gnaala Karla Booja woman, I take pride in actively contributing to the resurgence and acknowledgement of my people's wisdom, giving all Aboriginal communities the ability to collaborate in the development of their land, their territory.
